I heard on a quilting related show recently about this brand new quilting tool that Riley Blake just came out with:  The Clapper.  The Clapper?   New?   Are we thinking about the same item?

Yes,  Yes we were.  New?   No.   Not at all. 

You see, I have a Tailor’s Clapper.  It is at least 30 years old.  But I do have to say, I am glad Riley Blake brought it  back to the spotlight. 

I currently have been using mine to press the seams on the t-shirt quilt I am working on.  We aren’t just talking about cotton knit, but cotton knit backed with lightweight interfacing.  And sewn to denim.  And that stripe piece in the photo is heavy rib knit from the cuff of a jacket.  Not the kind of seam you would expect to lay flat, but they most definitely did with the clapper.

So, how do you use this fancy piece of wood?   You simply lay it on the seam as soon as you finish pressing it, and leaving it for about 30 seconds to a minute.  It is not a fast process, but I feel it is worth it.  Just look at these seams laying open… and staying there! 

So you might want to visit some local thrift shops and see if you can find one.  They are definitely worth having around!  It will help you create something beautiful today!
