The “Straits of Mackinac” class taught yesterday by Bonnie Hunter was great! I did not get my block done, however I enjoyed the day immensely. The members of the Peaks and Pieces quilt guild were so very hospitable and well organized. The church venue was terrific and well lit and the youth group received donations for an upcoming mission trip. Perfect!
I had decided close to a year ago that I wanted to make this quilt and bought the String Frenzy book last October for this to be my winter project. Soon after that, life got in the way of my personal “for me” projects, and it got delayed. The beginning of December I read on Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville blog that she was going to be teaching this exact quilt in Bedford VA. Google maps was pulled up Immediately and confirmed my suspicions. This was relatively close to family! I sent off an email to register, and was told the class was full, but I would be put on a waiting list. Christmas came and went, and I figured it was not going to happen, but toward the end of January, I received an email telling me that a spot had opened for me. It all fell together perfectly!
Bonnie is a great and FUN teacher, and the energy in the room reflected it. There was a lot of laughter, sharing, and helping each other out. With fifty-ish people there, this was a great accomplishment!

I had to wear my quilting uniform… my denim jacket with my “Scarlet Cardinal” on the back. This jacket proves that my fusible laser cut appliques are not just for quilts!

Today was such a beautiful day in VA. The skies were beautiful and the air a warm 60 degrees. A great day to hang out with family!
Today we created family memories. What will you create today?
