What Does a Classic Car Have in Common with a China Jelly Jar?

I NEED to create!  My mental health depends on it.   In fact, in my opinion we all have a need to create.  The very beginning of the Bible tells us that God is the Creator of everything, be it animal, fish, plant life, geological, or astronomical.   It is right there in the very first chapter. It also tells us that we were made in the image of God.  I have seen in my own life, and in the lives of those around me, that creativity brings balance to my mind and to my soul.

My creativity comes out in fabric and design.  Over the years, I have tried many other media., but none of those fill my need for creating like fabric.  That is my media.  I have a brother who designs and creates homes and buildings and has sculpted beautiful pottery.

I have another brother who sculpts in metal, and although he would never call it art, it most definitely is.  He restores vintage automobiles, and if parts are not available (and I mean even fenders and roofs), he creates them.

My sister is recognized as a fine artist.  She works in sculpture, carving, sculpting in drywall and painting on canvas.

I have dabbled in some of those things, but those are her media.  Those are the medium that resonate with her.  She has dabbled in quilting and fabric, but that is my media.  Each of us are very different, but all are creative.  In our family we can trace it back several generations.  Our ancestors Gustavus and Godfrey Frankenstein were fine artists and their artwork is still in galleries. Their older brother John has a painting in the Smithsonian.  Our great grandmother  hand painted and sold beautiful fine china.  What a diverse media we encompass!

Creativity, however, is not limited to the use of hands.  I have a friend who does many very creative things with her hands, but I would say her main creativity is her story telling.  I have another friend, that is not “crafty” or “artsy” but writes beautiful poetry and prose.  Another creates beautiful cakes.  Another places furniture and color and accessories in her home in such a way as to welcome others and make them oh so comfortable.  Another puts together beautiful tea parties.  Another is a chef.  And the list goes on and on.  All are very different from each other, yet it all is the act of creating and it all brings joy to the maker as well as the viewer.

So, I ask you, what is your media?  What act of creation brings peace and joy to your soul?  What have you always wanted to try, but have not done it?  That may be just what you were created to do!  You won’t know until you try it!  What are you going to create today?
